History of Macramé

One of the earliest recorded uses of macramé-style knots, are in carvings of the Babylonians and Assyrians adorning the costumes depicted in statuary. The word macramé is derived from the Arabic macramia and Arab weavers knotted excess thread along the edges of shawls, towels and veils into decorative fringes. Additionally, these knotted fringes helped to keep flies off camels and horses.
The craft was taken to Spain and then Italy by the Moors before spreading through Europe. In England, during the late 17th Century, Queen Mary taught it to her ladies-in-waiting.
Macramé was at its most popular during the Victorian era and adorned items such as curtains, bedspreads and tablecloths.
Macramé's had a resurgence in the 1970s where friendship bracelets were made and exchanged among children. Additionally, plant hangers, wall hangings and other furnishings were popular.

Can I clean my macramé Jewellery?

My macramé products are created with high quality Brazilian waxed cord. Waxed cord is durable, and water resistant, so if for some reason your piece gets dirty you can wash it carefully and gently with soap and water.

Please note
Macramé Jewellery is not waterproof and should not be submerged in water continuously.
Wearing in the sea could result in salt damage and staining.

Can you create a unique piece of Jewellery to my own custom design?

I have always loved being creative and dabbling in arts and crafts as a hobby, however, once I discovered Micro-Macramé Jewellery making, it quickly became a passionate obsession.

Over time I have decided to dedicate more and more time to creating my original and unique pieces and I find inspiration in my beautiful surroundings in rural Shropshire and in the different cultures and customs of the places I have been lucky enough to visit on my travels.

Thank you for visiting my site and supporting small businesses.
